Kevin Atkinson

Kevin Atkinson, along with Lori Atkinson (John’s widow) co-founded the John Atkinson Lung Cancer Foundation.  Through discussions and prayers with John at some dire moments, Kevin witnessed a spirit within his brother to help others.  This  is what inspired the vision for the foundation to continue forward with the work that John began.  Kevin was a board member of the foundation.  Kevin was an active advocate on Capitol Hill with Lung Cancer Alliance based in Washington D.C.  John was a huge supporter of Lung Cancer Alliance which is why Kevin initially sought their guidance and support.  Kevin graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1994 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture.  Kevin is also a partner in Phelps Atkinson Golf Course Design located in Colorado and has been practicing golf course architecture for 18 years.  He also is the President of Atkinson Design Group, a Landscape Architecture Firm also located in Colorado. Kevin is the proud father of two beautiful daughters, Katelyn and Jade.


Ann Atkinson

Ann Atkinson was John’s mom and was a board member of the foundation. Ann was a senior paralegal with Kutak Rock LLP in Omaha, Nebraska. She received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, with a major in business education. She served as the President of the National Association of Legal Assistants. Ann received her Certified Paralegal designation in 1993 and earned her Advanced designation in Contract Administration in 2006. She was a former adjunct instructor in an ABA-approved paralegal program in Omaha, teaching law office administration, ethics and introductory classes and is currently one of the instructors in the local CLA/CP review course. She and Ed have been married for over 50 years and have lived in Omaha for most of their married life. They are both devoted to John’s memory and all that he stood for and continue to be involved with their family.

Dr. Robert Langdon

Dr. Robert Langdon was John's oncologist during his 26 month battle with lung cancer. His knowledge of cancer and the latest in advances made him an integral part of our Board. Dr. Langdon received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. He received his board certification in Internal Medicine and his certification in Medical Oncology. He is director of Bergan Mercy Hospice and serves on the board for Hospice House. Dr. Langdon is the Assistant Medical Director at the Nebraska Methodist Cancer Center.

Shawna Kasner Hannam

Shawna Kasner-Hannam has been a friend of the Atkinson family for many years.  Shawna is committed to oncology and to lung cancer, as she has been a Sr. Executive Sales Specialist at Lilly Oncology for several years.  She specializes in chemotherapy for lung cancer patients.


Shawna completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees at Drake University in Des Moines, IA.  She currently serves on Drake’s Alumni Board of Directors.


Shawna and her husband, Dave, live in Omaha with their son, Logan.  Shawna enjoys traveling, entertaining, and investing.  She was committed to carrying on John’s legacy and raising awareness about lung cancer.  Shawna was passionate about the John Atkinson Lung Cancer Foundation, fighting cancer, and making a difference.

Todd Ricketts

Todd Ricketts was a classmate of John and Lori's at Westside High School and became a member of the board in 2010. Todd has served as a director of the Chicago Baseball Holdings, LLC since October 2009. Todd has managed his personal investment portfolio since 2001 and has been a managing co-owner of the JBE Riding Group LLC, a bicycle retailer and service provider, since 2009. He is the director currently designated by the stockholders of TD Ameritrade.  Todd is married and is the proud father of three children.


Scott Hazelrigg

Scott Hazelrigg is the President of the NorthStar Foundation, which he founded in 2007. The 501(c)(3) charitable organization was created to address greater Omaha’s most critical unmet needs for male youth in before and after-school programming. (


Scott Hazelrigg was a three-term member of the Westside Schools Board of Education. Hazelrigg was first elected to the Board in 1998, re-elected in 2004 and 2010. Throughout his tenure, he has held the positions of President of the Board, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.


Hazelrigg holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska College of Law (Lincoln, NE) and is a member of the Nebraska Bar Association.  Additionally, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Texas Christian University (Fort Worth, TX) and is a graduate of Westside High School, attending the former Arbor Heights Junior High School and Loveland Elementary School.


Hazelrigg and his wife, Denise, reside in District 66, with their family.

Jacquie Estee

Jacquie Estee was a career educator with Westside Community Schools.  She taught elementary school for many years before becoming principal at Swanson Elementary in 1986.  She moved to the central office in 1993, as the Director of Staff Development.  In 1996, she transitioned into the role of the Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Staff Development.  She became the first female Superintendent of Westside Community Schools in 2008, a position she held until her retirement in 2012.  Jacquie and her husband, Brent have two grown daughters.
