Since 2010, the scholarship program has been proud to award 128 scholarships to children around the United States totaling over $100,000. The scholarship program was organized by a committee whose members included Lori Atkinson, Jenny Haase and Terry Beutler.  After researching many other scholarship opportunities and scholarship requirements, the John Atkinson Lung Cancer Foundation scholarship program was created. Our hope was to ease some of the financial strain placed on families who have lost a parent to lung cancer. Since John was a parent of three children, we felt this was the best way to honor his memory and carry out his legacy.

Students were awarded up to $2,000 to be used at a college, university or vocational/trade school. The scholarship was only given to high school seniors who had lost a parent to lung cancer and it was not renewable. The scholarship program is no longer available.
